But before going to that, You must assure that your Smartphone is Rooted and have Custom Recovery Installed. There are 2 most Popular Recoveries CWM and TWRP. So You have both things? Great. How To Create Nandroid Backup On Android Devices
- Go to Recovery
Firstly, Go to your Phone’s Recovery. Don’t know how to do that?. Well, It’s quite Simple, Generally Holding Power key and Volume Down key at the Same time, while the device is switched off, will make you head into Recovery. Although, in some, cases this might not work. You can know that by little googling. 🙂
Once you are in recovery mode. Note that you can’t use touch Screen in CWM. So you will have to rely on those volume keys for navigating.
Create Nandroid Backup
Once you are into Recovery, take a full Nandroid backup of your Device. It depends on “Recovery” you have. We have both guides for CWM as well as TWRP. Still, if you have some other recovery, the options are quite same. You can easily understand what option you have to select.
For CWM Recovery-
CWM Recovery looks like what is shown above. DO you have CWM? Follow below steps-
- Navigate to “Backup and Restore” using Volume keys.
- Select “Backup” by pressing the Power key.
- The Phone will start backing up your system Now. Wait for a while.
- Once the backup is done, select ‘Go back’ and choose ‘Reboot system now’. Now you have successfully backed up your data and your Phone should restart.
How to Install CWM/TWRP recovery on any android device without Computer
For TWRP Recovery-
TWRP Recovery looks like what is shown above. DO you have TWRP? Follow below steps-
- Navigate to “Backup and Restore”.
- Chose the partition for which you want to have a backup for, Not sure what to select? Use default selections.
- Swipe to start the backing up process.
- The Phone will start backing up your system Now. Wait for a while.
- Once the backup is done, select ‘Go back’ and choose ‘Reboot system now’. Now you have successfully backed up your data and your Phone should restart.
Transfer backup elsewhere
To be on the safer site it is always recommended to transfer your backup to your PC. Follow these steps to move backup from your phone to PC.
For CWM-
Connect your Phone to your Computer via USB cable and Navigate to /data/media/clockworkmod/backups and copy the backup folder to your PC. After you successfully copied the folder, you can delete that from your device.
For TWRP-
Connect your Phone to your Computer via USB cable and Navigate to TWRP Folder. There you will find a folder named “Backup”. Copy the backup folder to your PC. After you successfully copied the folder, you can delete that from your device.
How To Restore Nandroid Backup On Android Devices
It’s quite simple. To restore your Nandroid backup. Boot into Recovery. Select “Backup” or “Backup and Restore” and then navigate to the folder ‘backup’ which you created earlier. Select Restore. The process may take few minutes. Once it’s completed. Reboot you Device and Voila! You made it. You have successfully restored your Nandroid Backup.
